This is the second Survival Squad book and it includes cross-country ski-ing, skating, igloo construction and a rescue in a blizzard. I don’t know a lot about ski-ing, but I do know quite a bit about skating on frozen ponds. In the village where I used to live in Norfolk the pond used to freeze over most winters, and when it did people would come from miles around to skate on it and drink mulled wine. Everyone said the pond was only a couple of feet deep, but then came a hot summer and the pond dried out completely, revealing the fact that there were three metres of mud below the surface before you finally reached the bottom.
After they had cleared out all the mud with a digger the pond slowly refilled, but it never froze properly again. It’s probably best to stick to ice rinks if you want to learn to skate.
