Back in 2009 I was asked to work with Theo Walcott to create a series of inspiring and exciting books about football. It was a lot of fun, and to tell you a bit more about it here’s a quote from Theo’s interview with Arsenal magazine in May 2010.
Question: “What was the process that you and Paul May went through in putting the stories together?”
Theo: “I worked with Paul on my ideas and stories from when I was at school. I remembered plenty of stuff – we covered everything I could recall from when I was a kid, from going out into the garden kicking a ball around, to paying school football, playing at break times, you name it. If someone didn’t have a football at school we wouldn’t know what to do. It’s very similar in the books. It was great fun to do – I made suggestions about things to put in or take out. We formed a good partnership and hopefully people will enjoy the end results. I love kids, and being able to put a smile on their faces, and it’d be great if these books can do that – there are some good laughs inside and I hope children can learn from them too.”
The illustrations by Jerry Paris are terrific too!
