This book is about kayaking, and it’s in this one that the Scouts are in the greatest danger. To research the book I went for a three-hour private lesson on some of Suffolk’s only white water. It was only a small river, but it was big enough for me. I made a point of capsizing a few times so I would know what it was like. It was wet and cold.
Suffolk rivers are normally more like the one in the picture, and paddling in this Canadian-style vessel is a very sedate experience, quite unlike what happens in the book.
